A Baseline Survey for the Development of Home Health Care of the Elderly

Abstract
This basic survey was conducted for a total of 6 districts of Taegu Metropolitan City, using home health records and nursing records, in order to understand the complicated problems of family members. One village from Dalsuh-gu district because it had bigger area and old population than others. Therefore, a total of nine village were surveyed.
The data analysis was done through the percentage of characterintics of households and population.
The total number of population for the 5,505 surveyed households was 6,374, which means that family members per households was 1.16. Pa-dong village of Susong-gu district had largest families (1.38 per households), the total number of people for 905 households being 1,246. There was slight difference in the family size for each village.
The age and sex distribution of those over 60 among the 6,274 people surveyed was: those 65 to 69 was the largest group of 29A% (1,869 people ) ; those 70 to 79 was 27.0% (703 people), which slightly exceeds those from 65 to 69 (23.6%, 679 people) and those over 80 (22.2%, 199 people), but with no remarkable difference.
The case history of those 6,274 people surveyed was as follows. The number of those who answered that they had disease in the past was 1,581 (24.8%), and Susong-gu district had the largest number of 476 people (38.2%). Those from 70 to 79 was 27.0%(703 people), which slightly exceeds those from 65 to 69 (23.6%, 679 people) and those over 80 (22.2%, 199 people), but with no remarkable difference.
The distribution of medical institutions sought by the surveyed households for emergency was : 63.2% (3,480 households) used hospitals, 28.2% (1,551 households) used private clinics, and 5.3% (292 households), pharmacies. The reasons for selecting certain medical institutions when health problems occurred was also examined.
Largest group of 44.5% (2,452 households) answered they chose according to their emergency state, 17.9% (987 households) said that they chose for short distance, and 11.1% (613 households) considered medical expense most important.
